AI Adoption Happens One Desk at a Time
Three training courses changed nothing. One hour on his own projects turned a sceptical 30-year veteran into the fastest AI user in the room. How it works.
Juniors deliver in hours what used to take days, but where do they still learn to judge results? Why AI raises the floor and endangers the ceiling.

We are automating away professional training without noticing.
A development director recently told us, with some pride, that his juniors now complete in hours what used to take them days: analyses, first drafts, documentation, all faster. Sounds good. Asked where his people still learn to judge whether a result is any good, he went quiet.
Judgment never came from watching. It came from self-made mistakes, dead ends, and the laborious wrestling with a problem until you understand why one solution holds and another does not. When AI takes over exactly those laborious repetitions, the opportunity where juniors used to become seniors disappears with them.
AI raises the floor: that is the blessing. But it widens the gap at the top: that is the danger. What becomes scarce is not the ability to produce something quickly, but the judgment of whether what was produced is right. And that judgment cannot be bought or promoted. It only grows from experience, the very experience currently being optimised away.
The thinking error is to see juniors as costly producers whom AI makes cheaper. In truth they are the seniors of the day after tomorrow. Whoever cuts the learning spaces to save costs today will, in three years, have automated the easy work and starved the one capability no tool replaces.
